PROPEL Night with the Portland Pirates – 3.13

Join PROPEL and the Portland Pirates on March 13 as the Pirates take on the Adirondack Phantoms! Come to the pre-game reception at the Captain’s Club (inside the Cumberland County Civic Center) for networking, complimentary food, and a cash bar. The game starts at 7:00pm. All PROPEL tickets will be printed together in Main Deck Seating! Ticket sales and registrations are through the Pirate’s website. Celebrate the kick off of PROPEL’s entreverge awards nominations on February 27 at USM! entreverge is PROPEL’s annual award ceremony that acknowledges local entrepreneurs, scheduled this year on June 12. Nominations will open on February 27, so get ready to nominate entrepreneurs you know and celebrate with PROPEL and the University of Southern Maine, PROPEL’s premier sponsor!

USM graduate, David Shaw ‘ 76 (M.B.A) will be this year’s speaker, discussing leadership, social entrepreneurship, and his personal experiences as an entrepreneur. David is the founder and managing partner of the Black Point Group. He is also the founder and retired CEO of IDEXX, a venture investor/director of Ironwood Pharmaceuticals and Sapphire Energy, a founding chairman of DVM and Fetch, and has been a director/founding investor of more than a dozen public and private companies. After the presentation there will be a networking event with complimentary hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar. This event is free for PROPEL and Chamber members and will be held at Hannaford Hall on the University of Southern Maine’s Portland Campus.

When I Heard the Learn’d Astronomer
In Walt Whitman’s poem “When I Heard the Learn’d Astronomer”, a student struggles to maintain a sense of wonder about the cosmos as it gets reduced to numbers by a brilliant but droning lecturer. Growing impatient, he leaves the classroom to see the stars with his own eyes. Like Whitman’s young scholar, the artists in this exhibition balance facts and data with poetry and mystery in hybrid practices that investigate how we observe, process, and present information. PROPEL After Hours at Portland Pie Company – 10.3

It’s a pizza party, PROPEL style! Join us at Portland Pie Company for a fun night of complimentary pizza, drink specials from Shipyard Brewery, and live music from the Eric Bettencourt Trio, all under a tent at Portland Pie’s Old Port location!

Portland Pie will offer up slices of their signature pizza and Shipyard will have some of their new canned beers, including Export and Pumpkinhead, and others like Monkey Fist and Blueberry on tap. A portion of the proceeds from bar sales will benefit student scholarships at the University of Southern Maine.
