About PROPEL’s Community Engagement Initiative
This year PROPEL launched a new Community Engagement Initiative with the intention of helping individuals expand their professional development by engaging directly with the local community, while also promoting and supporting the work of local nonprofit organizations.
The Community Engagement Initiative is comprised of several new programs as well as the expansion of the existing In Focus Event Series that began in 2015:
- In Focus Event Series: The series was conceived in 2015 with a grant from the Maine Development Foundation through the Realize Maine Network. Today the series stands on its own and provides a means for young people to learn about nonprofits, identify opportunities to volunteer, offer free professional services, and serve on nonprofit boards in Greater Portland, Maine. Learn more about the series and see photos and information about our past events on the In Focus Event Series page.
Volunteer Match Program: A program that matches young professionals with local nonprofits to provide ongoing volunteer, consultant level services. Learn more about how to get involved, either as an individual or as an organization looking for volunteers and services, on our Volunteer Match Program page.
- Community Engagement Team: PROPEL's Community Engagement Team consists of PROPEL members that are participating in the Volunteer Match Program. The team meets regularly to network and discuss the work they are doing in the community, receive targeted professional development, and participate in group volunteer activities. Learn more on our Community Engagement Team page.
